Shortly before 7 a.m. on August 11, a line of school buses pulled in front of Schaumburg High School, their doors opened, and students stepped out. On the front steps, the Saxon Marching Band began playing the school's loyalty song, and Principal Brian Harlan waited to greet the students. Across the District in Palatine, a similar scene occurred as William Fremd High School Principal Mark Langer and The Viking Marching Band drumline greeted that school's arriving students. An hour later, seniors from Palatine High School began the annual "Senior March" as the Pirate drumline led them from the school's stadium and through the front doors as teachers and staff cheered their arrival. All the while, teachers and staff greeted students entering James B. Conant and Hoffman Estates High Schools. Over the course of those early morning hours, nearly 12,000 students passed through the front doors of District 211 schools and began the 2022-2023 school year.
